There's a lot of true classic TV like
"The Flying Nun," "That Girl," "F-Troop," and
"Hogan's Heroes" in
the Spring DVD release schedule. If you missed previous editions,
you can read them starting here.
All
28 episodes from the sixth season--including "Jack Bares All" (welcoming
Priscilla Barnes as Terri Alden), "Two Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Maid
to Order," "Janet Wigs Out," the retrospective "The Best of Three's
Company" (hosted by Lucille Ball) and "Laughs Around the World," an
eight minute featurette that details the worldwide popularity of the
show and new versions of the show are being produced internationally using
the original scripts. In Poland they have their own
"Three's
Company" with their own actors, but the same scripts are used. This
featurette shows bits of the episode "Paradise Lost" in Polish, interlaced
with the US version. set.

I wasn't expecting to see
"The Flying Nun"
on DVD so
soon, but here it is, all 31 episodes
from the debut season--including the two-part pilot, "A Bell for San Tanco,"
"Flight of a Dodo Bird," "My Sister, The Sister," and "You Can't Get There
From Here." It's a four-disc set, 10 1/4 hrs. total, includes
an interview with Sally Field: "A Look Back at The Flying Nun."
I bought a pirate version of
"Dinosaurs" on eBay because Disney said they had no plans to to an
official release, now here it is, in pristine quality, for much less that
I paid for the shabby pirate edition. This first edition includes
the first 29 episodes (two seasons), plus "The Making Of Dinosaurs," a fist-ever
behind-the-scenes look at how Jim Henson's Creature Shop brought the
dinosaurs to life; "The Art Of Dinosaurs;" character designer Kirk Thatcher takes
viewers through his original designs for the dinosaurs, and Dino-Eggs - Join the adventure and excavate all the buried bonus
clips! Sounds pretty cool, I can't wait to get my copy.
"That Girl" is coming out on May 16th from Shout
Factory (they've been putting out some great stuff), and includes
the original "That Girl" pilot episode (with Ted Bessel as a Native
American), "The Making Of That Girl" featurette with Marlo Thomas,
"That Girl" promos, "That Girl" In New York with Marlo Thomas and Bill Persky,
audio commentaries with Marlo Thomas and Bill Persky. Do not confuse this edition
with a "Best of" edition from Anchor Bay that came out in 2001.
On the subject of Shout Factory, last edition I wrote
about the
"You Bet Your Life" DVD starring Groucho Marx. Since then I
received my copy and really enjoyed it. The picture quality is not
as good as sitcoms filmed on 35mm, but this is the best quality release of
this show. For years, inferior PD versions have been available in
bargain bins, but this is a really fun, first rate version. You get
18 episodes and bunch of bonus features. Because
there are other similar editions, I want you to make sure you get the
You Bet Your Life: The Best Episodes version.
Also from Shout Factory, is
"The
Jack Paar Collection" which captures the legendary, pioneering talk-show host at
his very best. From his years spent hosting The Tonight Show to his own
Jack Paar Program, Paar took the traditional interview out of the mundane,
engaging actors, athletes, musicians, and politicians on a whole new
level. His interviews were occasionally controversial, frequently
emotional, and always—always—provocative.
This 3-DVD set includes December 2003’s PBS documentary Smart Television:
The Best Of Jack Paar, (featuring segments with Woody Allen, Fidel Castro,
Bill Cosby, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, and more), plus Paar’s greatest
episodes in their entirety, his favorite monologues, and full interviews.
This collection came out in 2004, but I just got around to watching it,
very enjoyable.
More titles are
available in Morty's Mall,
and on the resource pages of my TV Index.
