|
Previously on The Amazing Race. Nine families set out from Lancaster, PA. for Washington, D.C. where they searched for a spy with a password. Along the way, the Gaghan family struggled. The Paolo argue, while the Rogers drove in the wrong direction, then Brock got blamed for his father’s mistake. Then at the Detour, families were thrown in the middle of a Civil War battle. Wally Bransen faltered, while the father and sons in laws were in awe. In the end it was the widowed Mom and kids of the Weaver family that took the lead. While the Rogers struggled to the end and were eliminated. Eight families remain, who will be eliminated next?

We start the show back at Welbourne Manner, where the families had a mandatory pit stop. The Weaver family starts off at 2:26am. They must fly to Charleston, North Carolina. Once the plane lands, they must choose a vehicle and drive to historic Charleston, and find an area know as the Battery. They must find the gazebo that contains their next clue.
Once on the road, we see the Weaver and Linz family behind a wide load truck and they cannot get by. The Bransen and Gaghan family are smart enough to borrow their driver’s cell phone and book tickets for the flight to SC. The Paolo are last to leave at 3:05am, haven’t been on the road long before the start to argue again. The Weaver’s driver over shoots the exit for Washington Dulles Airport and have to reverse up the Highway. The Linz family spot them going in the wrong direction and think it’s hilarious.
The Weavers cause some drama at the Airport. Mom isn’t sure about flying and feels
intimidated about being in the Airport. She refuses to answer questions from the other teams and has made some of the others very uncomfortable. They think Mrs. Weaver is hiding something and has an earlier flight. Later we see Hunter Schroeder and Rolly Weaver who are the same age hanging out
in the airport. Hunters’ mother doesn’t like it and tells him to stay
away.

The Paolo’s are waiting for their flight and continue to argue. When asked what his problem is, the older boy says that he is tired. He is sick of his mother being in his business and aggravates the hell out of him.
Part One [11 minutes]
The Independence flight lands first at 10:04am in Charleston followed by the American Airlines flight. Teams make their way to the vehicles to find the gazebo. Once there they learn that this clue is a detour. The teams have to choose between two tasks. "Forrest Gump" or "Muddy Waters."

 |
In "Forrest Gump" teams must drive seven miles to a fresh seafood company and hop on a professional shrimp boat. Using their hands, they must remove the heads from 200 pounds of shrimp to receive their next clue. The clue box is near by but working through 200 pounds of shrimp could take a while.
In "Muddy Waters", teams drive 37 miles to the town of Ridgeville and find the mud run. There they must jump in a 4x4 and drive through a 400-foot mud bog. Teams must make one complete trip around of the course before receiving their next clue.
The Weavers are the first to attempt the mud run with Mom driving. They get stuck not far from the start. The Aiello guys are there at the same time and pass them, Mom Weaver isn’t happy to see them do better. The Aiello family makes the first half of the course and just as the finish

line is in their sights, they get stuck and have to be pulled out. David says, “We were going great guns though!”
After being pulled out, the Weavers having to go back to the start, make another attempt and are stuck again. The Aiello boys do the same but while they wait they get out and have a little mud fight. The Weavers in the end give up and head to the Shrimp boats. The Gaghan family arrive and on the first attempt, make the mud run and pass the Aiello boys.
On the shrimp boats, The Schroeder family are having fun teasing each other while pulling heads off shrimp. The Linz family are also enjoying the task and making fun of each other. Christine Godlewski is asking her team mates who is pulling head off faster. While the Bransen family have found their calling, Wally is glad it was easier as he could pitch in as it wasn’t so physical.
The next clue. Teams must now make their way to the Charleston visitors center and sign up for one of two charter busses. The first one departs at 3pm and the second at 5pm. Teams will be traveling to a mystery destination. The Linz family make it there first. One of the brothers carries Meg’s pack for her. The first bus to the mystery destination sets off with the Linz, Schroeder, Godlewski and Bransen families. The Aiello father and son in laws are back at the mud run on their 13th attempt! On number 14 they switch drivers and make it.
The second bus gets underway at 5pm with the Gaghan, Paolo, Aiello and Weaver family. They have no idea that it will take eight hours to travel to their destination, Huntsville, Alabama the rocket capital of the world. It’s there that they will find the next clue.
Once in Alabama, the Gaghan family are first to get to the clue box. They open the next clue and read. Teams must now drive 5 miles to the US space and rocket center. When they arrive, they must find the Edward O. Buckbee Hangar to receive their next clue.

The Bransen family arrive to the Hangar first. The clue is a road block. Phil explains that a road block normally is performed by one person. But because this is the Family Edition, two people will participate in this part of the race. In this road block, two people must enter the centrifuge until gravity presses on them at 3.2G’s. If they can withstand the centrifuge until it reaches 3.2G’s they will receive their next clue. The Bransen family are the first to complete the task with others looking on. The Linz family are making fun of the people in the centrifuge as they can see their faces on a screen provided.
The next task is to race nearly a mile of foot to Rocket Park, they need to make their way to the space museum and find a computer station where they must log onto AOL and get their next
clue via email. Dad Bransen is having a little trouble jogging along and Linz family are very close on their tail.

Meanwhile, the other bus has yet to arrive at the hangar. The ride for the other teams is full of complaints. The Aiello’s are sick of the Weavers complaining about no sleep. They stop on the way to Alabama for a bathroom and food break. Rachel Weaver has broken down. In the bathroom she tells her mother she can’t take it anymore. Linda Weaver consoles her and tells her, “Then Lie, We’re gonna be completely fake.” Linda doesn’t want the other families to know just how hard it is on her family. They chose to make a game out of it and danced around the parking
lot. The others traveling with them think they have lost their minds. Once back in the bus, while everyone else is trying to catch up on sleep, the Weavers sing.
Back to the space museum the teams log onto the computer and they are shown a clip of Phil he explains the last clue is their pit stop. They must proceed on foot to the space shuttle Pathfinder and check in. The last team to arrive may be eliminated.
The Bransen family are team number one. Phil has some very good news, as they are the first team to check in on this leg of the race. Phil informs them, that all licensed drivers have won a lifetime supply of Gasoline from BP. The Linz families make it in second with the Schroeder in third and happy that they are moving up In the race. The Godlewski families are team number four. The Weavers are team five. Phil comments that they were just not very happy on the bus. Linda tells him they are now.
The Paolo families come in as team number six. The Gaghan families are team number seven. The last teams to arrive is the Aiello family, Tony struggles to keep up with the younger boys in the team but they run to the end. Phil tells them that they are the last team to arrive and have been eliminate. They comment
that it was fun while it lasted. Phil asks Tony about the boys and them being part of his family now. He comments that these guys are good guys and they all tried hard. He knew they were good guys and being on the show just reconfirmed it. Matt explains that he loves Tony like he does his own father and the other guys are like his brothers.
